May be suitable where foot drop is associated with neurological or muscular weakness, provided substantial spasticity, fixed deformity or more complex ankle and knee control are not present.

Who is the StepUp® Drop Foot Support suitable for?
It is designed primarily for people with flaccid foot drop or dorsiflexion weakness who require lightweight assistance lifting the forefoot during walking.

How does StepUp® work?
Adjustable textile straps connect the calf band to the foot component and provide an upward pull on the forefoot during the swing phase of walking, helping improve toe clearance.

Can StepUp® be worn without shoes?
Yes. StepUp® is designed for use with or without footwear when correctly fitted, unlike some textile supports that require a separate shoeless attachment.

What is the difference between StepUp® and Boxia®?
Both are lightweight textile supports for flaccid foot drop. Boxia® connects an ankle cuff to suitable footwear, while StepUp® uses a calf-and-foot textile system that can be worn with or without shoes. Can StepUp® be worn with any shoe?
No. Where footwear is used, it should fit securely and allow the support to sit without bunching or creating pressure. Very loose, unstable or poorly fastening footwear may not be suitable.

Does StepUp® provide side-to-side ankle support?
The strap system can provide some mild medio-lateral assistance, but StepUp® is not a substitute for a rigid or reinforced AFO where substantial ankle stability or alignment control is required.

How tight should the straps be?
Use enough tension to assist toe clearance without pulling the foot sharply inward or outward, lifting the heel, causing pain or making balance feel worse. More tension is not automatically better. Orthotix Healthcare

How should the calf band fit?
It should sit flat below the knee and remain secure without causing painful compression. The straps should lie flat and untwisted and should not cut into the skin.

What is the Universal size?
The Universal version uses trimmable components that allow the fit to be adapted more closely to the wearer. The standard Small, Medium and Large versions are selected using below-knee circumference.

Is StepUp® suitable for every type of foot drop?
No. A more structured AFO may be required where there is significant spasticity, fixed deformity, strong side-to-side instability, substantial knee-control problems or other complex neurological needs. Orthotix Healthcare

Does StepUp® cure foot drop?
No. It provides external dorsiflexion assistance while worn but does not treat the neurological, muscular or mechanical cause of foot drop.

When should foot drop be professionally assessed?
New, worsening or unexplained difficulty lifting the foot should be medically assessed, particularly when accompanied by other neurological symptoms or significant weakness.
