Environmental Policy

At Dacey Ltd (T/a Orthotix & T/a Daceys), we are committed to minimising our impact on the environment and promoting sustainability throughout our operations. We recognise the importance of preserving the planet for future generations and strive to contribute to a cleaner, greener, and healthier environment. To fulfil this commitment, we have developed the following Environmental Policy:

1. Compliance with Environmental Laws & Regulations:

  • We will comply with all applicable environmental laws, regulations, and standards at local, regional, and national levels.
  • We will stay informed and up-to-date on evolving environmental regulations and adapt our practices accordingly.

2. Resource Conservation:

  • We will strive to conserve resources, including energy, water, and raw materials, through efficient use and responsible procurement practices.
  • We will implement measures to minimize waste generation, promote recycling, and responsibly manage any waste that is inevitable.

3. Pollution Prevention and Emission Reduction:

  • We will take proactive measures to prevent and minimise pollution through the adoption of clean technologies, best practices, and proper waste management techniques.
  • We will continuously evaluate and improve our operational processes to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, air pollutants, and other potential environmental pollutants.

4. Sustainable Supply Chain Management:

  • We will co-operate with suppliers and partners who share our commitment to environmental sustainability and encourage the use of eco-friendly materials and practices.
  • We will give preference to suppliers who demonstrate responsible environmental stewardship in their operations and product offerings.

5. Continous Improvement:

  • We will set environmental objectives and targets to drive continuous improvement in our environmental preformance.
  • We will regularly monitor, measure, and review our environmental practices to ensure compliance, identify areas for improvement, and celebrate achievements.

6. Employee Engagement and Awareness:

  • We will encourage and involve our employees in environmental initiatives and provide them with the necessary training and resources to contribute to our sustainability goals.
  • We will promote environmental awareness among our employees to foster a culture of sustainability throughout our organisation.

7. Stakeholder Communication:

  • We will communicate our environmental commitments to our customers, suppliers, employees, and the public.
  • We will actively engage with our stakeholders, seeking feedback and suggestions to enhance our environmental performance.

Examples of Ongoing Environmental Measures Being Implemented at Dacey Ltd

  • Expansion of our Cardiff facility to increase purchasing quantities and storage capacity, reducing overseas deliveries from four per year to one per year and lowering freight emissions.
  • New roof to improve insulation and discussions regarding recycling of rainwater.
  • PIR lighting.
  • Encouraging staff to car-pool, cycle to work, and use flexible working schedules to avoid rush hour and reduce vehicle emissions.
  • Automated cutting tables to ensure each usable section of material is utilised, reducing material waste and weekend working.
  • Vegan leather alternatives.
  • Use of recyclable 3D-printed filament for fittings, shoes, and lasts rather than traditional carbon-heavy materials.
  • Materials sourced from by-product suppliers.
  • Recycled paper in the office and re-using paper where possible.
  • Recycled ink cartridges and non-toxic pens.
  • Recycling of all waste products in separate bins.
  • Recycling plastic bags and reducing use where possible, phasing out non-recyclable plastic bags.
  • Use of recycled/recyclable boxes for deliveries.
  • Energy-efficient glazing and a casual dress code for staff to dress up/down depending on climate to reduce temperature control within the workplace.
  • Dedicated business environmental/energy monitor.
  • Electric vehicles for some staff at present and two on-site charging stations. Goal for all employees exceeding 6,000 work miles per annum to have electric or hybrid vehicles within the next five years.
  • Food delivery via a designated contractor once per day, avoiding staff driving to supermarkets and reducing vehicle emissions.
  • Computers and monitors set to 15-minute standby and always turned off in the evenings.
  • Paperless environment where possible (new website will allow PDF orders if preferred by trusts, further reducing paper usage).
  • Videoconferencing facilities to reduce travelling.
  • Installation of 475 kW solar panels on the south aspect of the warehouse generating 100% renewable energy and completely removing the need to purchase electricity from the grid. By using self-generated renewable energy, this is equivalent to planting 5.61 trees and saving 10.1 tonnes of CO₂e. Over a year, this will significantly reduce carbon output, reducing the footprint by 121 tonnes of CO₂.

By adhering to this Environmental Policy, we aim to be responsible contributors to a healthier environment while providing quality products and services to our customers.

Our commitment to sustainability is an ongoing journey, and we will regularly review and update our practices to ensure their effectiveness and relevance.
