How is a ring splint different from a conventional finger splint?
Instead of covering a longer section of the finger, a ring splint sits close to one or more joints and guides the way that joint moves.
Why are there different ring shapes?
Different arrangements are designed to influence different movement patterns or fit different joints.
How should it feel?
Secure but comfortable. It should not pinch the skin, create numbness or leave the fingertip cold or discoloured.
Should it rotate?
A small amount of movement may occur, but repeated twisting out of position suggests the size or configuration may not be right.
Why can a multi-size set be useful?
Finger dimensions vary by digit and can change with swelling. A set provides several sizes to check for the closest fit.
Can you choose the ring position by appearance?
No. The direction and position should match the purpose of the support rather than simply whichever orientation feels tightest.
Important: Persistent joint pain, locking, deformity or instability should be assessed rather than managed by repeatedly changing ring-splint positions.
