What should you check first?
Make sure the cover is the correct arm size and long enough for the seal to sit above the cast or dressing.
How do you protect the seal from rough cast edges?
Guide the sleeve carefully over the hand and cast. Avoid pulling the sealing ring directly across rough fibreglass, plaster edges or protruding fastenings.
How do you open the seal?
Stretch it only as much as needed to pass over the widest part of the cast. Use both hands so the tension is spread evenly.
Where should the seal finish?
Position it on healthy skin above the cast and make sure no clothing, padding or cast material is trapped underneath.
How do you check circulation?
The hand and fingers should remain their normal colour and temperature, without new tingling, numbness or throbbing.
What should you do after showering?
Dry the outside of the cover before removing it so water does not run towards the cast.
How should it be removed?
Open the seal gently and guide the sleeve back over the cast rather than dragging it against rough edges.
Important: If water is found inside the cover or the cast feels damp, follow the cast-care advice from the treating team rather than simply covering it again.
