Where should the seal sit?
The sealing ring should sit on intact skin above the cast or dressing, not directly over the cast edge.
How much overlap is needed?
There should be enough healthy skin above the protected area for the seal to make continuous contact all the way around the limb.
How tight should it feel?
It should feel snug enough to resist water entry but should not feel painfully tight or cause pins and needles, numbness or visible colour change.
What if the cast is bulky?
A bulky cast needs enough cover width so the sleeve can pass over it without overstretching or damaging the seal.
Should the cover have folds?
Some loose material around the cast is normal, but the sealing area itself should lie flat against the skin.
How do you check the fit before showering?
- make sure the cast or dressing is completely enclosed;
- check the seal is above the cast on healthy skin;
- smooth the seal all the way around;
- confirm it is not painfully tight;
- check the sleeve has not twisted.
What if the cover keeps sliding?
This may indicate the cover is too large, the sealing area is damp or the limb shape makes the chosen size unsuitable.
Important: Do not use tape, elastic bands or additional tight straps around the limb to force a poor-fitting cover to seal.
