Who is the Paediatric Knee Immobiliser suitable for?
It is designed for children who require knee immobilisation as part of treatment following selected injury, fracture or surgery, or for another condition where maintaining the knee in extension has been recommended.

What does the immobiliser do?
The rear and side splints restrict knee movement and support the leg in an extended position.

Can the side splints be adjusted?
Yes. The side splints can be positioned in two different locations to better suit the child’s leg shape. They should sit parallel to the knee joint.

How is this different from a normal children’s knee support?
This product is designed primarily to restrict knee movement. A standard paediatric knee support or stabiliser normally allows considerably more movement and is used for different clinical needs.

How should the immobiliser be fitted?
Position the immobiliser behind the leg with the rear splint centred and the side splints parallel to the knee. Secure the front straps evenly without causing excessive pressure.

Can it be worn over clothing?
It may be worn over thin, smooth clothing where appropriate, provided there are no seams or folds creating local pressure. Follow any fitting advice given by the child’s healthcare professional.

Can a child walk while wearing it?
Whether weight-bearing or walking is appropriate depends on the injury, surgery and treatment plan. Follow the guidance provided by the healthcare professional managing the child’s care.

Can it be worn on either knee?
Yes. The design is bilateral and can be used on the left or right knee.

Does it contain latex?
No. Current manufacturer information identifies the OP1180 as latex free.
